Whitecross
Hard Rock / Heavy Metal, USA
Whitecross was founded in 1986 by Rex Carroll and Scott Wenzel. One year later, their self-titled debut album was released on the Pure Metal label. Because of their style, they were often compared to the hair metal group Ratt. The debut was followed by the EP Love On the Line and the albums Hammer and Nail (1988) and Triumphant Return (1989). Pure Metal was then bought by Star Song. Two more albums were recorded and won the Hard Music Album of the Year category at the Dove Awards in 1990 and 1992. Then Rex Carroll, who had been an important part of the band as a founding member, left the group in 1993, but Whitecross continued to exist until 1998, with Wenzel as the only remaining founding member. In 2005, Carroll and Wenzel reunited to re-form Whitecross and re-record the debut album under the name Nineteen Eighty Seven, with two bonus tracks.
